Forum Update Number 29

Dear Resident / Residents' Group
Notes from the last Forum are still currently being prepared/edited but we have further information on YTL’s plans to redevelop the Brabazon hangers on their Filton airfield site that Cllr Steve Smith alluded to at the Forum. Please see details below.

Public Consultation - the YTL Arena
YTL is proposing to redevelop the Brabazon hangars in Filton, to create an arena for Bristol. Their vision is to put Bristol on the world stage for live music and entertainment by creating a visionary venue with people at the heart and attracting global events.
With new public transport infrastructure programmed to open in 2021, YTL’s proposed new arena will be within a stone’s throw of the city centre. It will source local products and services, create 500 new jobs, and inject in excess of £700 million into the local economy over the next 25 years.
The YTL Arena Operations Team, who are responsible for the plans to create an arena for Bristol in the Brabazon hangars, will be holding a series of public consultation open days THIS WEEK!
The three sessions at the Site Operations Centre, Filton Airfield, are on:
Thursday 18 July from 4pm to 8pm, with the last tour of the hangars at 7pm
Friday 19 July from 10am to 4pm, with last tour of the hangars at 3pm
Saturday 20 July from 10am to 4pm, with last tour of the hangars at 3pm

YTL very much hope that you will be able to attend one of these events and they look forward to meeting you. Visitors are advised to wear comfy shoes and to get in touch in advance if they have any access requirements. Staff will be on hand to tell people about the plans and answer questions.
Who are YTL?
Founded in 1955, the family-run Malaysian company is a long-term investor and has never sold a business. A highly successful international business with interests in power, water, rail, cement, construction, communications, property development, hotels and spas it has UK assets of more than £3 billion, including Wessex Water, The Gainsborough Bath Spa hotel and Thermae Bath Spa in Bath, and hotels in London and Edinburgh.

Brabazon Bristol - the former Filton Airfield
The proposed YTL Arena sits on the edge of the former Filton Airfield, which is also being transformed by YTL Developments. This historic local landmark is set to become Brabazon, a thriving new neighbourhood for Bristol. The 380 acres of the Airfield will become a new urban community, with more than 2,600 homes, creative workplaces and a vibrant town centre set among landscaped public squares and parkland.
At the same time, more than £100 million is being invested to improve local infrastructure: a new railway station will connect to Bristol Temple Meads in less than 15 minutes and a dedicated metrobus will run straight to the city centre.
