Forum Update Number 27

Dear Resident / Residents' Group
Further to our last Forum Update, we can now confirm that the final proposals for “improving” the A4018 and Westbury village will be submitted to Mayor Rees and his Cabinet for approval next Tuesday, 18 June.

A4018 - Final Proposals to cabinet
The full Agenda for the Cabinet Meeting on 18 June can be seen here and the significant A4018 Paper is listed as Agenda Item 12.
Included in Agenda Item 12, as Appendix B, is a link to a pdf summary of the results from the Council’s recent Consultation, on which the final proposals are now based.
The latter 27-page document makes interesting reading and outlines why the majority of the original controversial proposals have been dropped - or at least postponed and subject to further local consultations.
Perhaps the most significant controversial proposal to be retained is the inbound 24-hour Bus Lane on Falcondale Road, between Charlton Road and Greystoke Avenue.
Residents wishing to make their views known to Cabinet Members can submit a formal Statement to Democratic Services before 12 noon on 17 June.

Councillors' Response
We are delighted that the Council has accepted that the original proposals were ridiculous.
The open consultation on Westbury Village gives the opportunity to work with community to find an acceptable solution to controlling the traffic without killing the village.
We welcome the commitment to deliver improved traffic junctions at Greystoke, Westbury Road/Falcondale.
We welcome the consideration of a Canford Lane crossing, but want to see this turned into a stronger commitment with further research/consultation on exactly what form it will take.
What you can do now:

(1) We urge residents to register support or concerns by submitting Statements to Cabinet.
 (2) The Passage Road bus lanes are too long and will result in buses being stuck in traffic congestion before the bus lane starts. We suggest outbound the bus lane starts from Dragonswell Road and inbound from Brentry Lane
 (3) Inbound traffic will only back up at Blackboy Hill. The closure of Roman Road (by the water Tower) would help speed up traffic flow
 (4) We believe Air Quality is now a vital issue and are disappointed there are no plans to set benchmark air quality readings at key points along the A4018
