Forum Update Number 23

Dear Resident / Residents' Group
Please remember that the next Meeting of the Westbury Community Forum will be held at the Coombe Dingle Sports Complex (Old Pavilion) on Tuesday 9 April 2019, commencing at 7.00pm.
Westbury Parking Review – Update!
In Forum Update No 18, we announced that BCC’s Area Manager (Local and Sustainable Transport) had confirmed that all the preparatory work for the proposed TRO and the associated legal documentation has been drafted, such that the Statutory Consultation process should commence in late January/early February. BCC had first published their recommendations in May 2016, following a Public Consultation in 2014. Well, unfortunately the recent A4018 Consultation conspired against that target date and the Statutory Consultation has been delayed - yet again! The alternative, suggested by some Council Officers, was apparently to run the two consultations at the same time! We are currently waiting for a new date to be announced - hopefully our Councillors will be able to update us at the next Forum?

CIL Funded Projects
Limited funding is available to improve facilities in our local area for a wide range of projects. Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze is one of six groups of Bristol City Wards which can allocate funding to selected, qualifying, bids.
Our 3 Ward councillors are members of a committee of the 13 local councillors constituted under the umbrella of Area Committee 1, who meet once or twice a year to assess and decide on applications. See the Council's website for more information on the process.

This month's meeting will consider which projects for Westbury-on-Trym and Henleaze the councillors should take forward to the next meeting of the committee, so this will be your opportunity to influence any local developments. Currently, bids to fund 6 local Projects have been submitted to our Ward councillors:
  • New pedestrian crossing points on Canford Lane
  • Pavement improvements in Westbury Village
  • New sign-posts and information boards in Westbury Village
  • LED halos for two zebra crossings on Henleaze Road
  • Air quality monitoring and electric vehicle charging points
  • New street tree planting

Library Engagement Meetings

Two meetings were held at the Greenway Centre in early March, with a focus on identifying projects which would improve the role of the libraries in the community. It was emphasised that this was not a cost-cutting exercise and that Library budgets were protected for the coming financial year. However, it was also the case that there was no additional funding available The meetings were quite well attended and the atmosphere was positive with a number of proposals being made; more details can be found on the Westbury Library Group’s website.

Local Plan Review

If you are interested in future development in our Ward, please take a look at the consultation the Council has just started on its review of Bristol's Local Plan. The new Local Plan will set out how Bristol will develop over the next 20 years. It will help deliver the new homes and jobs we need and safeguard the environmental assets we value. There are a number of documents that form part of the plan which set out where new houses might be built and also the level of protection that will be given to green spaces in the future. This is a chance to have your voice heard and it is important that people respond, whether or not you agree with what is proposed. There will be increasing pressure on land for development in Bristol in the future and this is a chance to tell the Council which of our green spaces are most important and what type of development we want.
